Speech Choir Piece
This is a speech choir piece I composed for my sister's class for the Science Week.
All:
Agrinnovate: Revolutionizing Agricultural
Outlook for Sustainable Growth
(pause)
All: The
Philippines is always and forever an agricultural country. We plant our own
food, grow fruits and vegetables, and lavish with our own agricultural
products.
B : Victoriously,
we ranked 8th largest rice producer in the world.
G: The
world’s 3rd largest producer of pineapples.
B : We had an
increasing growth for coconut production and even surpassed other Asian
countries.
G : We are 9th
largest sugar producer in the world!
All : We were there! We were at the top! We don’t have to worry about food. We had the fertile soil to produce our own
food!
B: But what happened now? Many of our
fellowmen are suffering from hunger. Children are getting malnourished.
G (solo): I am
hungry mama.
G (solo, mama):
I have no rice to cook. There is no food
in the table.
B (solo,
farmer): The crops are destroyed by insects and parasites.
B (solo farmer): Farmlands and rice fields are dry.
All: Overall crop production is low. There
isn’t enough food for all of us. What happened to our soil? What can you do?
How can you help to solve our current situation? Do we have to rely on our
president alone? We focused too much on drugs and criminalities, but what about
our food? We cannot survive without food in our stomach. How can we cultivate our soil to produce
fresh fruits and vegetables? How can we maintain or even surpassed those
numbers back?
(pause)
All: Agrinnovate!
B (solo): Use modern
technology and equipment to monitor growth of our crops.
G (solo): I will start my vegetable garden.
G (solo): I will organize a youth organization to
disseminate accurate information to farmers.
B (solo): I will take
up Agri business for my college degree.
B (solo): I will help in my father’s piggery and poultry
business.
B (solo): I will use my time to research recent methods in
tilapia production.
B: No more
DOTA, no more Clash of Clans, and no more Minecraft!
G: We have to rekindle our interest in
agriculture. This is an important sector that brings food to our tables.
All: Survivors
are Filipinos. The wrath of nature and cruel destiny may steal our crops from
us.
B: Destroy our palays and corns.
G: But we never
have to give up.
B: For we have all the resources and
brilliant minds to stand the test of time. The spirit to survive and to bounce
back.
All: Filipinos
unite in the midst of crisis, regardless of socio-economic status, tradition,
and belief.
G: The world
has seen the noble spirit of the Filipinos in our most difficult times.
ALL: The gap between the rich and the poor was
narrowed.
G (solo): Laziness was replaced by hard work.
G (solo): Disgust for tilling our soil was conquered by love
for farming.
B (solo): Obsession
for computer games by the youth was set aside and replaced with interest in
agribusiness.
B: Having fresh fruits and vegetables in
ones table is the ultimate desire.
All: History tells us that we have staggering
production of our basic commodities, but we shall always strive to produce in
all odds.
B: We may be haunted by the horrible
scenes of landslides, flash floods, and drought around us. But certainly, we
will be strengthened by our unwavering faith in God and the industrious hands
of our farmers.
B (solo): I
believe that the youth, divided by varied beliefs and cultures, are capable to
be on top of any situation, if united. We are the hope and sword of our nation.
Let us bring back the glory and lush in our fields. Plant trees and crops, so
we will never be hungry again.
All : Together,
we can face any challenges ahead of us.
B : We may stumble and fall.
All : But we
will bounce back, minds stronger with vision, faith, and hope.
