Dumaguete is the capital city of the province of Negros Oriental. It is named as the City of Gentle people and also referred to as the university town. Students from neighboring cities and municipalities and as far as Mindanao have come to Dumaguete City to experience quality education and high standards of learning.
Universities located in the University town are Silliman University, St. Paul University of Dumaguete, Foundation University, and Negros Oriental State University.
A number of college are present here, namely, Asian College of Technology, STI, AMA, Collegio de Santa Catalina de Alexandria, Metro Dumaguete College, and Presbyterian College. The city also has 9 secondary schools and 12 elementary schools.
